The Importance of Student Welfare
Student welfare aims to ensure that all students are provided with a safe and supportive learning environment where effective teaching and learning can take place. Student welfare enables all students to grow and develop physically, socially and emotionally and supports their achievement of school goals (NSW DET 2011).
Student welfare can be enhanced at a school when the whole community contributes to the school environment and learning goals. The provision of a safe, caring environment is a key aspect of providing the best possible education opportunities for all students (NSW DET 2003).
Amy, your school may have it's own student welfare policy. If so, within this policy will be an outline of their behaviour management systems, reward systems, schools goals and aims in terms of welfare and students rights and responsibilities. If you can not access a student welfare policy from your school we have provided one here for you so that you can gain an understanding of what aspects of school life contribute to student welfare.
